Darkness at the Edge of Town – Bruce Springsteen as Sonic Mystic

When Jurgen Moltmann was on campus a couple of weeks ago, he spoke on the theme of Hope as a forgotten virtue in theological reflection. Part of this day was dedicated to seminars lead by faculty considering various ways Hope is articulated in our culture today. I lead a seminar on Bruce Springsteen and how is music articulates a ‘sonic mysticism’ which moves us through the classic movements of purgation, illumination and unity.
